In this five class series, play with the possibilities of starting and keeping a visual journal filled with more than words—with images and symbols that express and extend your personal experiences, your explorations, and your considerations. Anyone can make an artistic visual journal, and it can take on any form you want. It is possible to easily and quickly create pages that enhance the written word, communicate facts, emotions, moods, and stories. Samples of historic and contemporary journal pages will be shared. You will examine and try materials including a variety of adhesives,  paper surfaces, acrylic paints, watercolor pencils and crayons, oil pastels, inks, stencils, and stamps. In this journey of keeping a visual journal, you will learn techniques including easy photo transfer; doodling, mark making, and other forms of writing; techniques of “found poetry”; and collage. Consider collecting any personal ephemera including photographs, postcards, papers, stamps, illustrations, maps, magazine clippings, etc.  This visual journal can become an ongoing process of self discovery and expression. Bring a blank journal or purchase one from the studio.
